Synopsis: In this presentation we will review common emergencies in palliative care, discuss clinical assessment and how to recognize common emergencies, as well as a review of best practices when it comes to management for common emergencies.

Dr. Julie Caron, MD, CCFP, MSc

Julie is a rural family physician working in Midland, Penetanguishene and the surrounding townships. In addition to her family and palliative care community practice, she has privileges at Georgian Bay General Hospital in Midland doing hospitalist, palliative care, MAID and surgical assist. Julie also cares for patients at Tomkins House Hospice. Julie has had the privilege of working extensively in Northern Canada as a Locum Physician doing full scope family medicine including addictions medicine, wound care including sharp debridement, IUD insertions, medical abortions, minor surgical procedures and trans-care. She continues to work 1-2 week locums semi-regularly in Red Lake, Sioux Lookout and Marathon for “vacation.”

Dr. Amanda Murdoch,Dr. Murdoch, MD, CCFP, MSc

Amanda is a rural family physician. Her practice includes clinic, inpatient care, ER, palliative medicine and Medical Assistance in Dying (MAiD). She has privileges at GBGH in Midland, and cares for patients at the Tomkins House Hospice in Penetanguishene. She holds an assistant professorship with the Northern Ontario School of Medicine and teaches medical students and residents in the area. She spends her spare time enjoying the outdoors.
