These hands-on workshops will discuss common opioids and adjuvants utilized in managing pain.  These workshops are suitable for NP’s, RN’s, RPN’s and Pharmacists.

  • Understand commonly used opioids
  • Opioid conversions
  • Switching routes from oral to SC
  • Converting from oral to continuous sub c infusions
  • Gain an understanding of Equi-analgesia and adjuvant medications

Palliative Care for the Dementia Journey

In Partnership with the Alzheimer’s Society this workshop will be offered as one day for 3 hours or 2 days for 1.5 hours x 2. This workshop is designed for family, volunteers and professional staff to find ways of using a person’s strengths to bring comfort and joy to their life while living with dementia and not just at end of life. Cost: $40

A Guide To Difficult Conversations: The Art of Language

This interactive session explored common language mistakes we all use when talking to patients.  We discussed an approach to breaking bad news and review a recent article on various techniques used while having difficult conversations and their efficacy.  Participants had the opportunity for discussion about difficult questions and how to approach them as well as successful questions and when to ask them.

This workshop was interactive and informative and participants left with a few more tricks under the belt and feeling inspired to tackle their next difficult conversation!

The Growing Use of Cannabinoids in Seniors: from Pain Management to Palliative Care

This workshop was lead by Dr. Amanjot Sidhu, Geriatric Medicine at Hamilton Health Sciences and covered the following objectives:

  • Review the pathophysiology of cannabis and the strains most commonly recommended
  • A review of the current evidence
  • Address common misconceptions of the use of medical marijuana and the evolving use of medical marijuana in medicine today
  • How and when to safely prescribe and use medical marijuana for older patients
  • Knowledge Translation Strategies regarding medical cannabis
